From senior level to ground level, The Higgins-Group is actively involved in supporting the following charities. Each is aimed at making a difference in people’s lives forever because they look at the root cause of problems and make very tangible changes. Aerie
Aerie is a non-profit corporation committed to improving the lives of children in East Africa. We have built an orphanage located in Soddo, Ethiopia that provides a nurturing, educational-focused home for children ranging from 4 to 20 years of age. Aerie, a term that means “a nest built in a safe place” rescues children living in the streets and provides them with a highly positive environment that emphasizes education. In addition to providing care and love to these children, our hope is that, through education, some day they will be part of the solution for their country. Donna dedicates countless hours to raise funds and awareness of Aerie and travels to Soddo each year to visit the children and tend to the projects that allow the orphanage to flourish. AchieveAbility
AchieveAbility is a non-profit corporation that works to break the cycle of poverty, one family at a time. AchieveAbility provides exclusive support that emphasizes responsibility and accountability to homeless, single parent families. As well as serving on the board, Donna works extensively with many of the “clients” in the program to help them to determine career plans. Learn more at AchieveAbility’s website
Heifer International
Heifer International is a program that attacks poverty at its root by donating farm animals to families in third world countries where the addition of an animal can enable a family to thrive. Each year the Higgins-Group contributes to creating an “ark” of farm animals as part of holiday gifts to its clients. Learn more at Heifer International’s website
Smile Train
The Smile Train is a non-profit organization that is committed to eradicating the problem of cleft lips and palates. Smile Train uses it’s funds to donate free cleft surgery to children whose families don’t have the resources to afford it. For those children it provides a life-time of transformation – it is a modern-day medical miracle that makes a permanent, tangible, positive change in their lives. Learn more at Smile Train’s website
